Pain Reprocessing Therapy
Recently a new psychotherapy approach has been proven to be the most effective treatment for chronic pain. There were 100 chronic back pain patients in the published JAMA Psychiatry paper. Half received pain reprocessing therapy (PRT) twice a week for four weeks, and half received treatment as usual. 98% of patients in the PRT group improved, and 66% were either pain-free or nearly pain-free at the end of treatment. Dr. Tendler recently studied this approach to treat patients with chronic pain.
